Ref: Bryn Ellis:

Whilst browsing through Montgomeryshire Quarter Sessions Rolls, I came across the attached. The Borough of Pool is of course Welshpool, but I have yet to see a list of clergymen so was not aware of the Maysmor connection. This is only a claim for expenses but the original inquest certificate may be amongst the Great Sessions papers at the National Library of Wales - Main part of the Coroner's Inquest taken at Pool on 26 November 1800 on Humphrey Maysmor, clerk.............[details of jury etc......] That said Humphrey Maysmor not being of sound mind memory and understanding but lunatic and distracted on the 23rd November at Pool aforesaid in the Borough aforesaid at a certain dwelling house called the Vicarage house with a certain gun of the value of 10 shillings then and there charged and loaded with gunpowder and leaden shot did then and there give himself a mortal wound in the head by shooting himself in the mouth penetrating through the brain of him the said HM of which said mortal wound he the said HM there and then instantly died and so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath ........... William Parry, Coroner. The document is in the Great Sessions Gaol Files for Montgomershire, reference: Wales 4/197/1/26. The document is in a roll tied together as normal by a lace pushed through them all. I don't know what their policy is on photocopying such documents as they would need to slide all the documents along the lace. There would almost certainly have been an account in the local newspapers of such an event involving a glergyman. This would have been in the Shrewsbury papers, such as Eddowe's Journal or Adam's Weekly Courant, also a Chronicle? [if I recall them properly]. They are certainly available at Shropshire Records & Research Centre at Shrewsbury and possibly at Colindale.2
