The first wife of Rolf/Rollo (1st Duke of Normandy) was called Popee, a daughter of the Count of Bayeux, France. His second wife, Gisela of France was childless. Rolf/Rollo arrived in Normandy from Norway and took his 'surname' from St Clair sur Epte. Rollo de Sancto Claro later settled at St Lo after taking the castle there in 890. In 912, at the castle of St Clair sur Epte, King Charles of France met Rollo and installed him as the 1st Duke of Normandy. |
