 Like so many of his family before him, he was a member of the printing profession.
 He was an Electrotyper and Stereographer and employed several workers.
On 1 December 1854 he married Janet Bell Thomson at St Cuthberts in Edinburgh.

was baptised in Lauder, Berwick on 24 September 1829 to James and Margaret Thomson.

followed his father into the printing profession and became an Electrotyper and Stereographer.
