William emigrated to South Africa with the "1820 British Settlers". He named his farm "Birchwood Park" after the estate in Snelston. He was an illiterate labourer. This information came from a posting on one of the Genealogical websites by a Marilyn Coetzee on 29th June 2003. I have tried to e-mail the address with no success (6 Jan 2004).
