Matriculated 23 Jun 1836 at Worcester College, Oxford aged 17. Bachelor of Arts in 1841. Convicted of fraud in 1861 and sent to Australia for 10 years where he settled with his family.

 

On his son Thomas' birth certificate, his occupation is given as Clerk.

 

 

James Roe (convict 6709) arrived at Fremantle on "York" 31 Dec 1862. Also on the same ship is his future son-in-law Herman Joseph Moll (convict 6659). Not sure if they knew each other before their journey.

 

Arrived on board the "York" in December 1862 at Fremantle WA. Ticket of Leave 1864 Some of his ideas were implemented in the Elementary Education Act 1871
