PRCD 1851 census - see aunt Elizabeth Matley. 1871 census - aged 36, an army sergeant living in Verne Citadel, Portland, Dorsetshire, born in Chesterfield. Also present were his wife Ann, 34, born in Norwich, and their sons Thomas, 8, scholar, born in Gibraltar; Arthur, 5, born in East Canada, & William, 3, born in Gosport - 2007/25. 1881 census - aged 42, a librarian living at 31 Mather Street, Radcliffe, born in Baslow.
