He was married previous to Margaret and Margaret did indeed have son Richard before they married but was brought up as a Grindey. Moses treated him as his own. Rumour through the family was that Richard Roe was the result of Margaret having a fling with the then Prince of Wales. She was a servant at the hunting lodge used by the prince.
