According to Edna Dickenson's research, William was born c 1838in Seacroft, Yorkshire (Leeds). William was in the 68th Regimentof Light Infantry (No 51 Private). Enlisted 15 10 1857.Discharged 12 7 70 presumably because his first son was born 6 61870.1

Baptism not on the IGI. 1851, in Hulme, Manchester, head of household with an aunt and uncle with him. Not on the 1861 census.

 

On 1871 census a Thomas and Mary Dickinson are at his house - an uncle and aunt.

Note on Wife: Anne GOOSTREY

Not on the 1851 census.

On the 1861 census with her aunt Ellen, her husband (Ellen's) and grandfather, John Goostrey at 1 Grape Street in Sutton near Macclesfield. Age on the 1861 census given as 14 so this baptism may be the wrong one. 1881: widowed, living at 53 Upper Duke St, Hulme, Manchester. Not on the 1891 census.

1901, remarried to a Henry Thompson and living next door to son, Douglas with Oscar at home with her.
