After serving throughout the first world war with the Garrison Artillery, Mr Allen returned to England to manage a Lithographic transfer plant, subsequently becoming the sales representative in the Potteries and Midlands areas for the ceramic products of Johnson Matthey and co Ltd.In the 1920,s he was appointed mamager of their Burslem factory which was then producing ceramic colours.While he has been with the company it has expanded from small beginings to one of the largest colour plants in the country. Mr Allen is wellknown in the pottery and glass industries. His family have a long association with the potteries disctrict, his father, Mr Robert Allen being a well known designer.
