Note on Husband: Race Aphalus JOHNSON
Johnson, Race Alphalus, 2nd Bishop of the Beaver Ward, Bear River Stake, Box Elder Co., Utah, was born Oct. 4, 1865, at Brigham City, Utah, the son of Jarvis Johnson (of Mormon Battalion fame) and Sarah Jane Angell. He was raised and schooled in Brigham City and Washakie, and moved with his parents to Beaver Dam in 1882, where he has resided ever since, and where his father died Jan. 28, 1898. Brother Johnson was baptized when about 8 years old, ordained a Deacon Dec. 23, 1883, by Francillo Durfey, ordained an Elder March 25, 1888, by John C. Dewey, ordained a Seventy June 26, 1906, by Seymour B. Young, and ordained a High Priest and Bishop June 1, 1907, by Heber J. Grant, and set apart to preside over the Beaver Ward, which position he occupied until July 28, 1929. Prior to this (1901 to 1906) he had acted as superintendent of the Beaver Ward Sunday School. In 1888 (March 28), he married Charlotte Marie Whitworth of Calls Fort, Box Elder Co., Utah, in the Logan Temple. The following children are the issue of this marriage: Pearl (deceased), Mary Lavona, Veda (deceased), Alphus Ariel, Florence, Martha Fern (deceased), Catherine, George, Charlotte, Alice Virginia (deceased), Benjamin Francis and Afton. In 1906-1907, Bishop Johnson filled a mission to the Eastern States, laboring in the South West Virginia Conference, and was called home to succeed Francillo Durfey as Bishop of Beaver Ward.
